Workshops
The Art of Flower Pressing Workshop with Amy Fielding and Melissa Richardson of JamJar Edit
The Apple House, Serge Hill Lane, Bedmond, WD5 0RZ
Thursday 10 July, 10am-4pm

Learn The Art of Flower Pressing with Amy Fielding and Melissa Richardson, co-founders of London based flower pressing studio JamJar Edit, in this day-long workshop at the Serge Hill Project.

Taking inspiration from the abundant variety of species growing in our Plant Library of over 1500 perennials and bulbs and surrounding wild flower meadows, you will spend the day immersed in the art of flower pressing. You will leave with the confidence to select, prepare and press suitable flowers for pressing, and equipped with the skills required to make your own exquisite pressed flower artworks.

With practical demonstrations and hands-on guidance, you will learn how to select and prepare flowers for pressing, paying close attention to the shape and structure of the plant specimens, including tips on what to look out for, and the types of flowers that will not press well.

JamJar will delve deeply into the process of flower pressing, teaching you how to get the best out of your flower press, and tackling some of the more difficult species to press, highlighting the do’s and don’ts and sharing their experience of successes and failures over the years. The workshop includes a flower press which is yours to fill with locally grown seasonal flowers, and take home at the end of the day.

Information

Working with flowers JamJar have pressed for you in advance, you will come away from this flower pressing workshop having mastered techniques for creating your own unique pressed flower artworks using a variety of handmade papers and materials - all yours to take home to further your pursuits in the art of flower pressing.

The day will be peppered with anecdotes and historical references from Amy and Melissa's book, The Modern Flower Press, published by William Collins in 2022.

Tickets include a vegetarian lunch and refreshments throughout the day. Following the workshop you will have the chance to explore the Plant Library and hear from our head gardener, Millie Souter about this unique collection of 1500 perennials and bulbs, curated by Tom Stuart-Smith.
